Travel Guide: What I Wore & Things to Do In Madrid, Spain

MADRID, SPAIN

What I Wore: These super skinny high-waist black jeans, a moto jacket like this one, a rotating cast of sweaters, this mustard wool blend beret or this black fisherman cap depending on my sweater, and an oversized scarf. I visited in November so it was cooler. Oh and these super comfortable Dr. Scholl’s booties! I also bought several fun sweaters and accessories from KLING which I then wore out, like the striped sweater in this photo.

What I Did: An early tour of the Royal Palace of Madrid before any crowds! A highlight was Cafe Chinitas’ Flamenco show, which was fantastic. The performers were so passionate and talented! The Museo del Prado is free Monday-Saturday in the evenings so we did a self-guided tour there and saw all of the most famous works one night. We also wandered Plaza Mayor and shopped around Gran Via.

What I Ate: One of the most fun parts of our trip was treating ourselves to hot chocolate and churros at Chocolatería San Ginés. The chocolate is thick for dipping, not for sipping (learned this the hard way)! We had an amazing dinner at Café Comercial; make sure to have a reservation to enjoy this spot. Breakfast at Adorado Bar is a must and will fill you up for the whole day. We also had seafood paella at a casual lunch spot we happened upon. I wish I’d caught the name; it was delicious.

Where I Stayed: The Luxury, heart of madrid, near Sol y plaza mayor AirBnb. The host Luis and his son are the best! This place is a studio so it’s smaill, but it has every amenity you could want, and Luis will give you recommendations for anything. He’s the reason we went to Chocolatería San Ginés. I loved this place and can’t say enough about Luis and his family. I’d return in a heartbeat.
